Car Servicing

It is widely recommended that you arrange a vehicle service at least once per year so any minor faults or advisory items can be detected for ongoing preventative maintenance and to ensure the reliability and value are upheld on your vehicle

An MOT test will only check that your car is roadworthy. Your annual car service can help to highlight any areas that need attention to prevent them becoming an issue in the future

There are 3 levels of car service and the one you choose will depend on the age of your vehicle:

Interim service – an interim service should be arranged every 6 months, or before taking a long trip.

Full service – a full service should be done every 12 months, or 10,000 miles, whichever occurs soonest (or according to the manufacturer’s service schedule)

Major service – a major service should be conducted every 2 years or 20,000 miles, whichever occurs soonest (or according to the manufacturer’s service schedule)

What does a car service include?

Depending on the level of service you opt for, you can expect the following to be conducted during your visit:

  • Replace oil filter

  • Check antifreeze levels

  • Top up coolant as necessary

  • Check and top up clutch fluid

  • Examine brake pads for wear and tear

  • Clean and adjust brake shoes if required

  • Check handbrake

  • Top up brake fluid as necessary

How long does a car service take?

A car service takes longer than an MOT test, so we recommend you leave your vehicle with us for at least 2 hours, to allow us to conduct all the necessary checks and changes

How much does a car service cost?

The cost of your car service will depend on the level of service you require. An interim service has fewer checks so will be the lowest cost option. A major service will have the most checks, so will be the more costly service

Can you book an MOT and service together?

Here at Fine Cars, we can arrange for your car to have its annual MOT and service completed at the same time if it is more convenient for you

MOT in Hampshire

If you are a vehicle owner, it is your responsibility to ensure you book your car in for an annual MOT before it expires

An MOT is a legal requirement, and you can receive a hefty fine if you are caught driving without a valid certificate

Once your car has had its MOT, it will be valid from the moment you leave the garage. You will receive a paper copy of your results and they will also be available online if you need to access them at a later time

Should your car fail its MOT, you will have the opportunity to re-book once any necessary repairs have been made

How do I know when my MOT is due?

You will usually receive a letter through the post, to the address registered with the DVLA. This should arrive around 4 weeks before your MOT is due to expire, giving you plenty of time to get your vehicle booked in with Fine Cars

You can also check online when your MOT is due to expire in just a few clicks. You will need your car registration number to perform the search

How long does an MOT take?

You can expect an MOT to take between 45 minutes and 1 hour, but we recommend leaving your car with us for a little longer in case of any delays or any further work which may be required
